Giuseppe Fico is heading the Health&Wellbeing strategic area of the Life Supporting Technology research group at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He holds a PhD in biomedical engineering at UPM and a M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering at the Universitá degli Studi di Napoli Federico II. He is an expert in creating, managing and exploiting research projects that make use of engineering and ICT methods as catalyst for innovation, to positively impact health care outcomes. He is currently the technical Manager of the MOSAIC (7th Framework Programme) and Big Data 2 Decide (Horizon 2020) research projects, where eHealth solutions are applied to improve decision making in diabetes and head and neck cancer respectively. He is project manager of the MINIQ grant, where a decision support for drug prescribing and drug utilization reviews (EIT for Health) will be adapted and tested in Spanish settings. Since 2012 he is coordinating the Action Group A1 Prescription and Adherence to medical plans of the EIP on AHA, and leading the user empowerment A1 subgroup. Since 2015 he is an official collaborator of the Health Technology Assessment and Clinical Engineering Divisions of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering. Since 2015 he is coordinating a strategic collaboration between the Life Supporting Technologies group and the Innovation Unit of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, with the objective of accelerating the adoption of innovative solutions in the Madrid Healthcare System. He is co-lecturer of specialized courses of human machine interfaces, telemedicine, clinical and biomedical engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
